Sonoma County
Sonoma County’s growing regions are a collection of superb soil, slope and sunshine. These factors, presented throughout the county in a variety of combinations, help to create one of the most diverse and high quality appellations in America and one we at Steelhead Wines are blessed to call home. With few exceptions, every type of wine grape can be beautifully grown in one or more of Sonoma County’s regions, from cool climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to warm weather Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. It is also here that a focus on stewardship of this unique land has led Steelhead and others like us to give back by way of conservation and restoration efforts across the county.
The areas where we source our fruit are as unique as the wines that we produce:
Dry Creek Valley: In many ways, Dry Creek Valley is quintessentially Sonoma County, where warm days are tempered by morning fogs from the Pacific varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel emerge, both on the narrow valley floor and the wooded hillsides above. It is here where components for our rich Red Blend come together as well as our fresh and bright Sauvignon Blanc.
Sonoma Valley: Much of Northern California’s wine history began here, today lush and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot thrive while up valley, Zinfandel comes into its own.
Russian River Valley: Where morning river fogs moderate afternoon temperatures so that fruit maturity is achieved without loss of depth and suppleness, Steelhead Chardonnay and Pinot are born.
Sonoma Coast: Here vineyards rise up above the fogline on slopes where the depth of flavors that can be generated when varieties like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are planted are absolutely delicious.
Carneros: On the northernmost edge of San Francisco Bay (San Pablo Bay), one of the coolest regions in Sonoma County–partly because of the Bay’s moderating influence–the Carneros is prime Pinot Noir and Chardonnay country.

At Steelhead Wines we are dedicated to help make a better world and we are proud to sponsor Trout Unlimited with a donation for every bottle purchased.
